Prof. Dr. Sebastian Vollmer
Welcome to my website!
I am a doctoral researcher
in the
Faculty of Business and Economics
at the
Chair of Development Economics,
University of Göttingen,
and a recipient of the
CeMIS PhD Fellowship.
My research interests lie in Development Economics and Applied Microeconomics,
with a particular focus on education and political economy, migration and marriage markets, and long-run development.
My current projects examine the distributional effects of affirmative action in higher education, the role of international migration policies in shaping domestic marriage markets, and the long run development of social norms.
Before my PhD, I worked as a Pre-Doctoral Fellow at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) and as an Academic Associate at the Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIMI) on projects related to caste disparities in learning outcomes and the Right to Education Act. I have also worked on research projects at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, BHU Varanasi, and Panjab University, focusing on women’s safety, their decision-making and financial literacy, and the workings of handloom industry clusters. I hold an M.A. honours in Economics from Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Beyond research, I am passionate about photography, reflective writing, and wide reading.
